  Jesus as King of Kings

Will Jesus really ever be The King of Kings?  (Rev. 11:15; 17:14; 19:16)

Yes, thankfully! Jesus will soon be the King of Kings. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem the week before he was crucified he was proclaimed king by the people. When he was placed on the cross, "Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. Pilate answered, What I have written I have written." (John 19:19-22) From his birth, when the wise men sought "he that is born King of the Jews," and until his death, there was recognition of Jesus’ role as king, even though he would not exercise that power until a future time.

It required Jesus to go to his Father in heaven and wait for his faithful followers to join him before the fulfillment of the prayer which has been offered for centuries "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." This prayer repeated for so long will not go unanswered. Prophecies reveal that Jesus will soon reign as king over all the earth.

Revelation deals to a considerable extent with the seven phases of the Christian church, from the Apostles to the present day. Rev. 11:15-19 is the time of the seventh angel, the day in which we are living. Verse 18 explains well the conditions on the earth today: "And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged…." However, when we realize the prophecy of verse 15 we understand that Satan’s empire will be destroyed and the kingdom of righteousness will take its place.

By far most translators of the Bible render Rev. 11:15 as "The kingdom of this world..." rather than "The kingdoms of this world..." which would indicate that it is referring to Satan’s dominion as "prince of this world" rather than all the various kingdoms that make up our present-day world.

Satan has held sway over the nations and people since the Garden of Eden. There have been many attempts to rule the world by kings, monarchies, democracies, communism, dictatorships, etc. There have been the Times of the Gentiles when the power was taken from the Jewish king Zedekiah, and given to Babylon, then Medo-Persia, afterwards, Greece, and finally Rome.

St. Paul tells us in 1 Cor. 15:25 that Jesus will reign as king until all wrong, evil and evil doers will be destroyed. Then will be fulfilled the promise that Jesus will reign forever and ever. Never more will evil rise again. His kingship will be over an earth without any rebellion against his righteous and holy rule.
