  The Plan of God

Does God have any kind of a plan we should know about? If, so, what is the Plan of God? (Ephesians 1:9-11)

Yes! The Plan of God is clearly referred to in the Scriptures. We get a clue of our great Creator of the Universe having a plan in the fact that his Son was "the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." (Rev. 13:8)  Also 1 Peter 1:20 states that he "verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you." Not only this, but when speaking to Christians, the Apostle Paul says (Eph. 1:4) According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love. Ephesians 1:11 confirms that this is a class being predestinated according to his purpose.
If therefore Christ and his faithful followers were part of the original Plan of God, then we must establish that the periods of time before and after the time of Christ were also part of his plan. So, first of all, we understand that God foreknew that Adam would fail the test of obedience and that a Redeemer would be needed. Then in the Ephesians scripture, verses 9 and 10, we are assured that "Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:"

To understand this thought of a dispensation, we go back to the time of creation until the flood of Noah’s day which in 2 Peter 3:6 is referred to as "the world that then was" that we would call the first dispensation, which was under the jurisdiction of angels (Heb. 2:5) Then, in Galatians 1:4 we read of "The present evil world" or second dispensation. This would include God’s plan of dealing with such patriarchs as Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, leading up to Israel being recognized as a special nation by God.  This was a time when God declared in Amos 3:2 "You only have I known of all the families of the earth:" when they were in covenant relationship with him. This we refer to as "The Jewish Age" when Israel was given a law as a "schoolmaster" to lead them to Christ. (Gal. 3:24) Then, from the time of Christ, is "The Gospel Age" when as part of the Plan of God, the good news has been preached in all nations for a witness, to call out a people for God’s name--the bride of Christ. (Matt. 24:14; 28:19; Acts 15:14)

The "dispensation of the fulness of times" (Eph. 1:10) or the ages to come referred to in Eph. 2:7 is the third dispensation in the Plan of God which incorporates the time of the thousand-year reign of Christ when all enemies are put under his feet. (1 Cor. 15:25) In 2 Peter 3:13 its called a new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness and "the world to come" (Mark 10:30; Heb. 2:5) This will be a glorious fulfillment of Gods plan when all mankind will know and love and praise Him forever.
