  Promise of God

With so many promises in the Bible from God, does every promise of God eventually come true? It seems that only some have been fulfilled.

Time has been the chief factor in doubting the promises of God to mankind. Because of this many have wondered if God has forgotten man. But the Bible assures us that when God makes a promise it is sure of fulfillment. (Num. 23:19; 2 Cor. 1:20; Heb. 6:18)

God has a plan for all and it could not be accomplished in a day, or a week or even a year; because his plan has various stages and often involves long periods of time. Each stage has added another important feature to the work of blessing mankind. At various stages we can see how his promises are grandly progressing. To Adam and Eve God gave a promise, even though shrouded in obscurity, that Satan and sin would be vanquished. (Gen. 3:15) Here they were promised a “seed.” an offspring that they believed would save them. (See Gen. 4:1)

The promise of God to Abraham was that his “seed” would “bless all the families of the earth.” (Gen. 22:17, 18). And, in due time God sent his son Jesus, the seed, who was to ultimately be the blesser of all. (Gal. 4:4)

And in time God showed that his son was to have a bride, those who would also be part of the seed. (Gal. 3:16, 29). This had been a mystery throughout the ages, but in the due time it was manifested that the one to bless the world would be Christ with his bride. (Col. 1:26, 27) The bride would be taken from mankind in general, who if faithful, would live and reign with him. It has taken time to test and develop this class and for this very reason the rest of God’s promises to mankind await a future day.

And yet we can see God’s plan progressing before our eyes. One example in our time is the nation of Israel. God promised that Israel would be returned to their ancestral home and chiefly for the purpose of being the nation through which the blessing would flow to mankind. Jeremiah 31:31 tells us that he will make a “new covenant” or law with Israel and that this would be the means of God blessing mankind. They are part of the seed also. (See also Zech. 8:13, 23; Isa. 60, etc.)

No, God has not forgotten us. A little while and all the wonderful promises of God will come to fruition. (Rev. 21:4; Isa. 51:11, 25:8; Hag. 2:7)
